Host of 7 TWO’S Shute Shield rugby is our very own Cam Shepherd.
On Australian rugby at the moment, Cam says, “One thing this year’s Intrust Super Shute Shield has shown is that there is plenty of life left in Australian rugby union despite poor performance by our Super and national teams.
“Club rugby has become the heartbeat of Australian rugby and fans and sponsors need to continue to embrace it. I truly believe it’s our way out of the hard times.
Crowd numbers are up, TV audience is up and the standard of play by all teams is the best I have seen in many years. Just look at the recent performances of Penrith. Still not a win in 2017 but they have turned the club around (Julian Huxley thankyou) and have averaged 20+ points in their last 4 games also coming painfully close to wins over Parramatta and Gordon only losing in the final minutes.
The recent Warringah vs Manly game received national coverage in the press and both clubs showed the tribalism and passion they have for their club. A huge number of storylines played out through social media contributing to the huge number of people who packed Rat Park to experience arguably the game of the season.
“That passion is being shared by all the clubs in the competition and with the finals only a few weeks away I feel the best rugby is in front of us. We need to make sure the positivity and passion being created by Sydney Club rugby spreads across the country and we revive the tribalism in the tiers of the game above and below.”
Club Rugby TV is showing the Eastwood game this weekend. Tune into 7Two to watch the game at TG Millner field.
