Colts are back at Bon Andrews Oval and on the hunt for silverware in the form of the ‘Sam Carson Cup’ on Saturday.
Sam, whom the cup is named after, played 100 club games for Norths as a halfback before sustaining a severe brain injury in 2009 from a balcony fall. His family (Life Member Peter Carson) established the Fresh Tracks Foundation to define fresh pathways for people involved in acquired brain injuries.
Rugby Director Chris Hall, who was instrumental in establishing the Sam Carson Cup in 2012 said “One of the main reasons behind the idea was that we wanted to create an identity and culture within colts which reflected mateship, respect, and love for both Norths and rugby.
“Sam is a year older than me and played the same position, however, I won’t forget how welcoming and inclusive he was of me and anyone who joined the club – effectively I wanted our boys to demonstrate the same values that Sam instilled when he played at Norths, says Chris.
The Cup is awarded on a best of 3 Colts games basis. Having missed out on reclaiming the cup in Round 10, 2 – 1. The cup is the embodiment of an entire Colts group coming together to achieve something special and harness mateship from 1st Colts to 3rd Colts.
It has been a mixed year for Colts across the grades this season, with some tremendous victories and some narrow losses.
2nd Colts confirmed they will play finals rugby with and huge 111 -0 victory last week. Whilst 1st Colts will miss the playoffs in 2018, although knocking over Sydney University at home in round 4 was a big win.
The colts group will be running a meat tray raffle throughout the day with proceeds going to Fresh Tracks. To learn more about Fresh Tracks or to help out head to http://freshtracks.com.au/
