16-year-old Colts player Pappilion Sevelle, has been selected in the NSW Under 16’s team, along with Joel Rivers who is the NSW Head Coach. Both are off to the U16’s National Championships in the Gold Coast from 23-31st September.
In QLD, both player and coach will be challenging for wins against, QLD, ACT, WA and VIC in the week long National Championships.
Joel Rivers, our Colts head coach and NSW U 16’s head coach says, Pappi came to us through the Norths Academy, held earlier this year at Narrabeen Sports High.
“After the Academy weekend he started to train with us and then played in a trial game against Southern Districts,” says Joel. “We are really conscious with younger players stepping into the programme too early.”
Pappi plays for his school, Trinity Catholic School in Auburn and steps up and now plays 2nds Colts for Norths on Saturdays.
“It’s a huge commitment to travel from Lidcomb to Norths and making the NSW under 16’s team is a recognition of this achievement.
Pappi, plays 6 for Norths and 8 for NSW.
“The aim of the championships is to be selected to train with the Waratahs under 20’s over the summer period.
“Of course we want him to continue playing for Norths as well, “says Joel.
On the coaching front, we need to congratulate Joel for his appointment as the NSW Under 16’s coach.
Joel says, “ We are in camp at the Waratahs for 3 weekends, which should be good.
“It’s nice not to have to worry about getting players, and just focusing on winning the game.
“It’s been a few years since I have done this and I’m really looking forward to working with this group of 50 players and following them through and moving them to Colts,” says Joel.
