We caught up with Norths 1st grade number 12, Harry Burey, who is excited to be in the Sydney Rays NRC team and looking forward to the big bash on Sunday v the Western Sydney Rams at Macquarie University oval at 3pm.
“It was a goal from the start of the season to play for Norths and hopefully get selected in the NRC.
“I watched Brisbane and Canberra play last weekend in the NRC’s first round. Every team had a Wallaby playing in it. To play with that calibre of person along with the best of the Shute Shield is an honour.
“The amended rules for the NRC really suit my position as 12 or 15 .
“The game is designed to be faster and higher scoring, which is more exciting for the crowd.
“Last weekend in the Rams Country game, good long range tries were a plenty. Here’s hoping for that again.
“We’ve got 10 Norths players in the Rays team, which makes you feel comfortable right away.
“From a culture perspective, Simon Cron, who coached the Rays last year, really set the ground rules, so I feel I am on familiar turf.
“After the Grand Final result, I am lucky to be able to move on to the next level and play right away.
“Most importantly, I’ve got the opportunity to test myself at the next level.
“I know the Norths players from 4th grade up are planning to support us. It would be great to see a bigger Norths crowd out there.
“A lot of the Manly boys are in the Rams team, so the contest will be on and the rugby will be fast running,” says Harry.
The Macquarie Uni Sydney Rays will play the Western Sydney Rams at 3pm at Macquarie Uni rugby fields. It is also shown live on Fox Sports Channel 501 and will be called by Cameron Shepherd.
The weather is predicted to be perfect for rugby at 8-18, so get out and and support our Norths boys in their first game of the NRC.
