Hello Members, Sponsors, Players and Volunteers.
Firstly, as the reality of the COVID-19 Pandemic is now firmly upon us, I do ask that if you are struggling in any way and need assistance, please email myself or Jack Burey and we will do our best to accommodate. Community spirit will get us through these tough times and if we can help get in touch with an old friend or teammate to chat or buy some essentials, please reach out.
As you are aware, the Shute Shield Competition has been suspended and due to start on May 2, but this is an extremely dynamic situation and could very likely be extended. At this stage we have not been notified what the Sydney Rugby Union is proposing for the remainder of the 2020 competition – we will pass all information on as it comes to hand.
RA and NSWRU have applied for community funding. Of course, at this time, we don’t know if that will happen, how much and when.
The current situation is very disheartening for the Players, Coaches and Volunteers who have put so much effort into preparing for the season. We have a new Head Coach who is away from his family and a number of new International Players who are trying to adjust to a new country and now unsure of what the 2020 season might look like. We all should be extremely proud of how all the Coaches, Players and Volunteers have ‘got on with it’ and showed commitment to training and positive attitude on and off the field. Our Women’s 7’s squad and Colts have also been hard at it, the Colts have enough players to field 5 teams at this stage due to a fantastic recruitment drive.
With all the hard work done, the Coaches and Management have laid the foundation for an exciting season ahead but the reality is the disruption to the season will really challenge our Club financially. As you know, last week’s Season Launch had to be cancelled and the club will suffer from limited or no game day experience as well as postponement of club events. I would like to thank the 88 Members who have purchased membership for 2020. With a target of 300 memberships, can I please ask every one of you who has not yet joined to go to our website and become a Member of the Northern Suburbs Rugby Club for 2020: northsrugby.com.au Your membership will support the sustainability of our Club – while we acknowledge we might not be able to provide you with all the membership benefits listed on our website during 2020, your support will be very much appreciated and help ensure we are ready to hit the field with competitive teams hungry for wins as soon as the competition starts.
Our amazing Community Partners/Sponsors will need your support during this period so they can support us. All sponsors links are on our website and we will be sharing more detail and promotion of each of these businesses through our social media channels.
Unfortunately, no firm answers can be given in respect of the 2020 season, the Board Members, Management and Player Delegates are meeting weekly to work through what is in the best interest of the game, the Club and our People in terms of sustainability. We are in a better position than some clubs and we need to support them and their people. The Presidents and General Managers are speaking on a regular basis to support each other and the best rugby competition in Australia.
We will get through this ! We are family !
Stay positive, support your Club and your mates.
Thanks again for your support.
