Sape Misa, a former back rower, renowned for his power and aggression, has successfully made the transition from player to coach since joining the club in 2015.
Having spent the previous two seasons as part of the clubs wider coaching group under former Head Coach, Simon Cron, Misa will step up to the role of 1st Grade Forwards Coach in 2018.
Shannon Fraser was eager to express his excitement on the appointment, labelling Misa as a key resource to the squads ongoing progression and improvement on the quest to make their third consecutive finals appearance.
“Sape brings the element of consistency and familiarity to the group, having been involved in the program for the past couple of years,” Fraser said.
“He’s very knowledgable around the clubs systems and playing structures and has quickly earned the respect of the playing group.
“Sape’s not long out of playing and therefore relates well to the players and the demands of which the game puts on them.
“He’ll be instrumental in challenging what is an experienced forward pack, whilst pushing them to new heights.”
Misa will be working alongside the senior playing group including Hugh Sinclair, Ezra Luxton, Sam Kitchen and Connor Vest, whilst having the luxury of super rugby players such as Will Miller, Nick Palmer, Michael Wells and newly recruited hooker JP Sauni returning from the Waratahs.
Misa was quick to judge the playing group for 2018, admitting that his respect for the players was not overlooked.
“I’ll be challenged by a talented playing group who I have a lot of respect for. Some of which who are already playing at the next level or good enough for the next level,” Misa said.
“I’m definitely looking forward to putting in the hours learning as well as helping the brothers reach their full potential.”
Training times for Grade, Colts and Womens begin Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm at Primrose Park.
