The challenge for our coaching group at the moment is holding the boys back! We started pre-season in October last year, with competition and depth in positions strong in both grade and colts. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing our transitioning colts-to-grade players (14 of them) who will be challenging some of the senior players and creating further depth in our grade ranks.
February has seen the roll out of our attack and defence systems, further work on the set piece and contact zones, along with a focus on player fitness by more ‘under fatigue rugby’ conditioning games. I’m really impressed with the ‘top-down’ alignment and roll out of content from our coaches, which should see similar patterns from 1st Grade to 3rd Grade colts. This will ultimately help with player movement throughout the course of the season.
We have seen an influx of women joining our Women’s 7s program over the last few weeks. Some girls came to their first ever rugby session and the good news they returned and from all reports – are loving it! Geoff Wells and Blake Murray are doing a great job coaching the women in the finer arts of catch & pass and tackle techniques but most importantly, helping create their own identity as a playing group. Numbers are growing week to week, however we are always looking for me women to play in the Red & Black!
Come and support the boys during their trials as they prepare for Round 1.
See you on the sidelines!
