With the club placing extra emphasis on overall player well-being. Financial understanding has been the latest addition to the program which already includes physical (Gameday doctor and physio staff) and mental (recently appointed mentor resource, Paul Jones) pillars.
Former Northern Suburbs 1st Grade Captain Ben Matwijow has been facilitating a series of Financial understanding seminars is his new role with Sentinel Wealth since finishing professional rugby.
Having sat in their exact shoes as a new Colts player and as a senior First Grade player,
Ben is able to closely relate and provide real-life examples of how much better off you are when you take control of your finances.
“When you take control of your money you take control of your future”. Matwijow said.
The 4 part series ‘Tackling Money’ relates the player’s financial independence around the key concepts of rugby in an easily consumable way.
“The first 2 series kicked off with ‘Getting Fit’, understanding your motivation, your goals and setting good habits. The second seminar was all around defence ‘Earning the right to attack’, focused on various types of insurance and cash flow management”. Ben added.
