Norths Rugby would like to congratulate our Shoremen 7’s team, their coaches Simon Cron and Michael Hartley, and Strength & Conditioning Coach Seb Green on an incredibly successful 2013 campaign in which they won every major tournament they were involved in.
The Shoremen began their campaign travelling down to Bowral to compete in the Southern Highlands 7’s. In true Shoremen spirit both the 1st and 2nd teams played against each other in the Grand Final. With our 1st team holding on to beat their team mates and be crowned Champions.
Beaming with confidence the boys entered their next competition in the prestigious Byron Bay tournament. Our Shoremen were the only team to go through the weekend undefeated and were capped Byron Bay 7’s Champions!
Two from two and the boys were up against the best of the best from Sydney’s Premier rugby clubs – the inaugural Sydney Premier 7’s – played over 2 weeks. The Shoremen dropped the first game of the competition against Warringah but went on to win every game thereafter and once again came up against Warringah in the Final. This time the Shoremen were too good for our Northern Beaches rivals and were crowned inaugural Sydney Premier 7’s Champions!!! A fantastic effort.
In the last tournament for 2013 the Shoremen took the journey to renowed Central Coast rugby 7’s. The competition was fierce and yet again our Shoremen were up for the challenge. Once again, the boys went through the weekend undefeated, not only were they crowned Champions but were invited to represent Australia at the Coral Coast 7′s in Fiji.
In the biggest tournament the Shoremen have been involved in they began their crusade with 2 wins on day 1 and a loss on day 2. They did enough to make the top 8. Head Coach Simon Cron added, “Day 1 and 2 were hot with a hard pitch and the team finished those two days with the best for and against record in the tournament showing a strong defensive work ethic with some dynamic attack. We were the only overseas team to make the top 8 with the bottom 16 teams comprising of the USA Falcons and some very strong Australian and New Zealand based sides”.
Unfortunately our boys lost their semi final for the plate to Serevi Select but to finish in the top 8 is a remarkable result. Coach Cron summed up the Shoremens season, “As coaching staff and management we couldn’t be more impressed with this group of players. Their dedication, attitude and skill levels have been applauded by many a spectator and team. Our squad encompasses everyone who went to Fiji as well as the 10 guys left behind who all had input in our success over the two months prior.”
Norths Rugby could not be prouder of our Shoremen and the boys will now get some well deserved R & R as the 2013 7’s seasons draws to a close.
