Summer of 7’s – Kiama Preview

The Men’s & Women’s 7’s teams will fly the flag for the first time together at this weekend’s annual Kiama 7’s.

While the Sirens have been playing alongside the Men’s XV’s for some time now, this weekend represents the first time both teams will compete in 7’s at the same tournament.

After the Shoremen played a fortnight ago at Hamilton, the Sirens got their season underway last week at Lak Macquire, unfortunately going down in all matches to First Nations, Manly, Syndey Uni and Nelson Bay.

The Shoremen will get their Kiama campaign underway early with a 9 am start against Western Sydney Two Blues before taking on Petersham  (12noon) and a rematch with Warringah (2:30 pm) to round out the pool stages.

Needing to top the pool to move onto the play off’s, starting fast and controlling the match tempo will be crucial in all three matches.

The return of key forward Hugh Taylor is a huge inclusion for the Shoremen with an elite engine, Hugh’s big minutes will be crucial later in the tournament along with Sam Giltrap who was the standout a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile, the Sirens will bounce back to face Gungahlin Eagles (10:45 am), Warringah (1:30 pm) and Eastern Suburbs (4:15 pm)
