This Saturday against Sydney University is our second home game for the season and our first home game Super Saturday. A chance to witness all teams including our Women’s 7’s.
Our 1st Grade team play for the John Thornett Cup. Unfortunately, John passed away in January this year but his Wallaby career will never be forgotten as will his amazing contribution to both Northern Suburbs and Sydney University.
As a tribute, there will be a moment silence before 1st Grade followed by a few words by Russ Tulloch (John’s former Wallaby teammate). Russ will be accompanied by John’s wife Viv who we welcome to North Sydney Oval as our very special guest with other family members. I was fortunate to attend John’s Memorial Service where all of the speakers captured his extraordinary career and the difference he made to every side he was involved with.
The club was thrilled to see Hugh Sinclair get a very well deserved call up to the Waratahs in South Africa. Those that saw last week’s game would have seen the immediate impact he had when he came on. Hugh deserves everything that comes his way, an inspirational captain and player who puts his body on the line for the Red and Black every weekend.
A huge congratulations to our Women’s 7’s side who last week had their first win for the season. For many, this is only their second game of competitive rugby but the hard work they have put into pre-season to develop their skills and the dedication of the two coaches Geoff Wells and Blake Murray is evident in the result. We can’t wait to see them go around again today.
Good luck to all other teams on Saturday. I know results have been mixed but there is nothing like a game against Uni to bring out the best in the Red and Black.
