The Shoremen Report: Round 3 v Gordon
It's been 630 days between drinks at North Sydney Oval and the return home couldn't be any bigger!
The Baxter / Mortlock Cup will be up for grabs for the first of two times this season in Round 3 when Norths host Gordon at North Sydney Oval.
The cup is played for between Northern Suburbs and Gordon 1st Grade teams and currently held by Northern Suburbs who emphatically reclaimed the cup 24 -13 in front of a vocal and 'socially distanced' crowd Chatswood Oval last season.
Both clubs come into this fixture riding high after strong starts to their respective seasons.
While Gordon did a number on Manly a fortnight ago, they followed up with another strong win over the Two Blues, potentially squashing any thoughts of a premiership hangover.
Norths opened their account in a similar fashion, dispatching Penrith before grinding out a win in the wet against Hunter Wildfires.
Scrumhalves Nick Duffy and Jacob Abel will play a pivot role in the outcome of this match, providing quick ball and moving their teams around the paddock. While Abel is electric from the ruck and can sniff out the smallest of gaps, look for Duffy running support lines through the middle of the field and poping up exactly where he is needed.
Norths are again unchanged in the backline through the opening 2 rounds. Jack Whetton gets his first start for the club replacing Dave Henaway who is unavailable this week, while Brodie Leber also gets his first start after a strong cameo from the bench rotating with Heinrich Brendel at number 8.
