Around the Grounds Round 7

A snapshot of all the round 7 action around the grounds.

There was no love lost when rivals Eastwood and Sydney University went head to head, with 4 players seeing yellow cards (2 from either side). It doesn't get any easier for Eastwood (5th) heading to Coogee Oval to face the still unbeaten and ladder leaders Randwick. Playing 4 teams around them in the coming weeks, Eastwood will be keen to win this one and get hold of the 'Sir Roden Cutler Shield'. Aussie 7's player Tim Anstee (4 tries in 2 games) has been a handy pick up at lock and will go head to head with a number of his 7's teammates in the Randwick side. Meanwhile, Randwick shows no signs of slowing down, dispatching a Souths team 34 - 5 who many were impressed by their early form this season. Fly-half David Horwitz continues to control things unleashing the speed out wide for the Randwick side.

Warringah will be hoping their back to back wins is a sign of things to come when they host Southern Districts, poised to continue their climb back toward the top 6. The rats will need to topple some teams above them give themselves a chance in the 2nd half of the competition. After an energy-sapping win over uni two weeks ago, Souths won't want back to back losses with some tough games to come in the following weeks and need to find the spark they showed in the early rounds.

Manly have left themselves a lot of work to do 3 wins outside of the top, despite coming up against Penrith this weekend they wouldn't want to take this one lightly. Penrith still chasing their first win of the season are home again and may target this one before a clash of the west next week.

The pirates had been building and secured their first win over Manly, however, the task gets harder facing unbeaten Gordon. With an eye on next week's match up with Randwick, Gordon will be looking to refine their game plan and should be too strong for the Pirates.

Easts breathed new life into their season defeating Norths well ahead of them. Stringing back to back wins will be a must if they are to make a late run of it as they head to Newcastle and will need to take the maximum points before a run of top 6 teams in their coming rounds.
