Norths clean sweep Two Blues & retain the Rod Phelps Cup

Norths traveled to Camden Rugby Park, determined to 'get back on the horse' and return to winning ways if they were going to hold their place in the top 6.

Buoyed by the return of Cam Clark and Pat Tafa from the Waratahs bubble. Clark a late addition to the starting XV in place of Tommy Gilbert suffering a jaw injury at Thursday training.

Both teams battled for territory in the opening exchanges sharing kicking challenges from either end, as Norths cracked first with back to back penalties inviting to Two Blues to open the scoring from a set piece rolling maul.

Norths found their attacking groove looking fast and powerful with strong carries on either edge of the field. Settling for the penalty goal attempt, only for a ricochet off the uprights for Cam Clark to open Norths account.

With Norths taking control of the opening half, Nick Duffy chose to bamboozle defenders with a fumble at the ruck, sneaking through for Norths second 5 pointer. It was Duffy again crossing the line shortly after in support of an Angus Sinclair half break to capitalise and push Norths further in front.

Through a perfectly maneuvered set play, Reece Mau'u crossed in the left hand corner. A brilliant backline play touching 6 different sets of hands at the 39th minute. With plenty to play for, the Two Blues musted a last ditch effort on half time to find the line once more closing out the half 26 - 14.

Norths picked up where they left and went to the air as Nathan Russell crossed for his 4th of the season. James Margan crossed later in the half to extend the lead before two late consolation tries to the Two Blues.

Norths retaining the Rod Phelps Cup, with a strong return to form.
