We are proud to announce the Club has extended Zak’s tenure as Head Coach, 2026 will be Beer's sixth consecutive season as Head Coach and seventh within our First Grade Coaching team.
There is no coincidence that his tenure as Head Coach has coincided with one of the Club’s most successful periods in the Shute Shield, claiming two Minor Premierships and consecutive Grand Final appearances over the past four years. While two narrow Grand Final losses keep the motivation high and focus sharp, it’s a credit to his leadership and the professionalism he demands of players, staff and volunteers that sets him among the best coaches in the game.
We wish Zak, our coaches, staff and volunteers and all players, in Grade, Colts and the Sirens every success as we battle for spots in the finals over the coming weeks.
A few words from Coach Beer about the extension:
It’s a special privilege to lead this proud club. We have a playing group that cares deeply about the Red & Black and what we stand for, and our coaches have done a brilliant job in developing depth and standards right throughout our grades.
With all four of our Grade teams still well in the hunt for Finals once again, we’ve got a strong platform to launch into this business-end of the 2025 season. This is the time of year we’ve been working towards since November.
We are making significant investments into our Colts program with some exciting announcements to come over the coming months. I’m looking forward to working closely with our younger Shoremen joining that program and those progressing from our Colts into Grade. Our undefeated Sirens are having a historic 2025 season and continue to grow from strength-to-strength led strongly by Nick Wiltshire.
Right now though, we have a laser-focus on the opportunity right in front of us, with finishing this next block of games strongly and pushing as many of our teams into the 2025 Finals Series to hunt for silverware.
As a proud club with 125 years of history, a strong alumni and supporter base, I know our players feed off the energy our Red & Black faithful bring in supporting us each Saturday, and we’d love to see and hear you on the sidelines bringing each of our teams home in our run into the end of August.”
Club President, Brad Leahy said:
“The Board unanimously agreed to re-sign Zak as Head Coach. The Club has delivered one of its most successful decades in its history and Zak has been a predominant contributor to this success.
Zak, his coaching team, and the playing group have faced many new challenges this season, integrating several new players into the Club due to a large contingent of last years grand final team having moved on to higher honours or post rugby careers. The professionalism and personal care Zak brings to his role as well as technical ability has him well placed to have a long professional coaching career and we are lucky to have him continue with the Club!
On behalf of the Board, we would like to congratulate Zak on his well-deserved re-signing and wish him all the best for the rest of this season as our teams all jostle for places in the finals”.
On behalf of everyone in the Northern Suburbs community, we wish Zak all the best for the remainder of the 2025 season and look forward to seeing our Club continue to grow from strength to strength into the 2026 season.
