From the Sideline

It was a bruising encounter to open the season at Drummoyne Oval. As both teams traded penalties through the opening half with tries hard to come by, Norths went into sheds 6 - 3 up at the break.

West Harbour were reduced to 14 men in the 38th minute after they were shown red. The second period was just as fierce, despite a Try to Jayden Lynch in his starting debut in the 53rd minute the game still hung on a knifes edge.

The pirates peppered Norths line and looked certain to score but not for an ankle tap and a marvelous tackle from reserve hooker Gary Bautz, to force the player held up in goal. A a pivotal moment that would swing the momentum of the match.

In the final 5 minutes, Norths laid on 3 tries to reserve prop Isaac Cavu (debut), reserve fullback Connor Winchester & reserve forward George Murrin to walk away with a bonus point victory at 32 - 3.

A huge reward for a strong defensive effort and conditioning that kept the foot on the gas right to the 80minute.

Congratulations to 9 debutants: Jayden Lynch (starting debut), James Margan, Ryan Lomas, Brad Hemopo, Heinrich Brendel, Max Burey, Jack Brewer, Isaac Cavu (reserve) & Tommy Gilbert.

Meanwhile, 2nd Grade had a strong win as did 1st Colts thanks to a 4-try effort to backrower Braedyn Collins.

Elsewhere, Norths took on Randwick at Latham park across all lower grades and colts in a round of friendlies.

Norths will take on the re-emerged Penrith Emus at Bon Andrews Oval in Round 2.
