Norths claim the Baxter Mortlock Cup with an emphatic victory
Stop the clock!!
As many spectators who flocked to Chatswood Oval for 1st v 2nd were in the bar line or still finding their seats, Norths were scoring. Right from the opening kick off Reece Mau'u was flying on the wing to claim the kick-off and dive over inside the opening 10 seconds.
We have seen some quick tries in recent years (Round 3, 2019) but none as fast as this. Be sure to check the highlights!
Norths win tough.
In the opening 1st half alone, Norths lost winger Reece Mau'u (leg injury), George Murrin (shoulder) and Dewald Dekker (blood bin). In a physical game, Norths called upon both Connor Winchester and Charlie Jeavons-Fellows having both played the full 80 minutes in 2nd grades earlier win. Both coming on and doing a fantastic job for much of the game.
As Gordon rolled on a number of fresh reserves including capped Wallaby Jack Dempsy, it wasn't enough to stop the Norths juggernaut who brought the intensity then took it up a notch in the final stages.
Strong Finish
Following a narrow halftime lead (7-3) Norths extended the lead with a try down the left touchline to hooker James Margan as he outran his opposite number.
Gordon closed the margin at the 60th minute and the game hung well in the balance before Max Burey sliced over with 5 to play. Gary Bautz claiming the 4th try bonus point from a rolling maul moments later to stamp some authority on the competition favorites.
