1st Grade pass their first major test.
Having collected wins in rounds 1 and 2 over West Harbour and Penrith. Manly at Manly Oval would prove to be the first major test of season 2020.
Finals regulars in previous seasons, Manly were coming off the back of a narrow loss to Sydney University and desperate to remain in touch with competition leaders.
Reece Mau'u shot to the top of the try scorers list as he raced down the left sideline outpacing and fending 3 defenders, before a charge down following the kick off quickly had the scores level at 7 apiece.
Two penalties through the boot of Angus Sinclair kept Norths in front despite another try to the home side, before another classy finish on the right wing from Kepu Lokotui pushed the halftime lead to 18 - 12.
Norths crossed early in the second stanza through a crafty piece of work from Harry Burey.
When hooker James Margan looked to have scored shortly after, a bonus point would have been a handy cushion only to be denied as Manly claimed their own at the other end.
A 6 point lead and an arm wrestle match was broken as Angus Sinclair calmly sat in the pocked to nudge a field goal in the final minutes denying Manly a bonus point for their efforts.
